Breaking the 'Three Times a Day' Convention… Professor Seokmo Heo Publishes Brushing for a Century“Is it really necessary to brush your teeth three times a day?”
Faced with this question he often received from patients in the clinic, Professor Seokmo Heo of the Department of Periodontology, College of Dentistry, Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) long hesitated to give a straightforward answer. He found it difficult to disclose that, as a dentist, he had for many years brushed his teeth only once a day, before going to bed.
Having been taught from childhood the so‑called "3‑3‑3 rule" — three times a day, for three minutes, within three minutes after eating — he had repeatedly experienced bleeding gums when brushing more often. The answer to this long‑standing question came from a lecture by a professor during his dental school years.
“The claim that you must brush three times a day actually lacks scientific evidence. It is far more important to brush thoroughly and properly even if only once a day.”
However, he too went through trial2026-10-02

PhD Candidate Gurpreet Singh Recognized for VRFB High-Performance Electrode ResearchJeonbuk National University (JBNU) PhD candidate Gurpreet Singh (Graduate School of Flexible Pinted Electronics, Department of Flexible Printed Electronics; supervisor Professor Junwoo Lim) received the Excellent Presentation Award at the 9th International Conference on Advanced Composites (ICACM 2026), held recently in Tokyo, Japan, for his research on developing composite-material electrodes that can improve the performance and stability of vanadium redox flow batteries (VRFBs), a next-generation energy storage system.
VRFBs are attracting attention as next-generation energy storage systems because of their high safety and capacity for large-scale energy storage. However, the low reactivity of electrodes and the slow rates of oxidation–reduction reactions have been identified as obstacles to improving battery performance.
To address these limitations, PhD candidate Gurpreet Singh developed a composite-material electrode by applying an MXene–reduced graphene oxide (r2026-09-23

Professor Gwang-woon Jeong and Team Develop Next-Generation Electrolyte Membrane That Withstands High-Temperature, Anhydrous EnvironmentsJeonbuk National University (JBNU) Professor Gwang-woon Jeong (Department of Polymer -Nano Science &Technology) and his research team have developed a next-generation polymer electrolyte membrane that reliably conducts protons even in high-temperature, anhydrous environments by combining liquid-crystal self-assembly with photopolymerization techniques.
This work demonstrates an anhydrous proton-conducting membrane applicable to high-temperature hydrogen fuel cells. The team precisely designed proton transport pathways by simultaneously controlling the self-assembled structure of phosphate-based reactive mesogen molecules and their macroscopic molecular orientation.
Conventional proton-conducting membranes rely on water for operation, so they have limitations in maintaining performance and stability at high temperatures or in environments with limited water supply.
The team utilized liquid-crystal self-assembly, in which molecules autonomously form regular structure2026-09-23
